Heat Seasoning Instructions

To properly prepare your cast iron and oven for use, begin by cleaning both surfaces to remove any food debris, minimizing the risk of excessive smoke and potential fire hazards. Next, preheat your oven to a temperature range between 375 and 450 degrees Fahrenheit, with 400 degrees being the most optimal. Be cautious of light smoking that may occur between 425 and 450 degrees, and ensure not to exceed 450 degrees to avoid any potential issues. Following this, apply a thin coat of cast iron oil to the pan, ensuring there is no excess oil pooling, as this can lead to excessive smoking and dripping. Once the oven is fully preheated, place an old cookie sheet on the bottom rack to catch any potential drips, and position the oiled cast iron dish side down on the middle rack. Allow it to bake for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, while keeping the oven door cracked open for safety. Monitor closely throughout the baking process. After the desired bake time has elapsed, you can either turn off the oven and leave the cast iron inside, or carefully remove it and place it on a heat-safe surface, such as a wooden cutting board. If the surface feels slightly sticky, apply a fresh coat of cast iron oil. For post-maintenance, remember to apply a fresh coat of cast iron oil after each use and cleaning. Repeat these steps as necessary to maintain the integrity of your cast iron cookware.
